Ribble Valley Property
Needs a Careful Hand
Covering BB7, including Whalley, Waddington, Chatburn, Sabden, Wiswell and the wider Ribble Valley. Around half an hour from our BB8 base via the A6068 and A671.
Clitheroe sits about half an hour from our BB8 base, and the run over gives a fair preview of what the roofs are like: open countryside, older stone buildings and very little shelter once you leave the town centre.
The Ribble Valley has a different building character to the mill towns to the east. Clitheroe itself has handsome Victorian and Edwardian stone terraces and villas, but the surrounding area, taking in Waddington, Chatburn, Sabden, Wiswell and the outlying farms, is full of genuinely old property, some of it pre-dating the nineteenth century entirely.
Older buildings mean softer stone, lime-based mortars, heavy stone-slate coverings and hand-formed detailing. They also mean roof structures that have been altered, patched and re-covered several times over their life, so what is underneath is rarely what you would expect.
The right approach on this kind of property is to match materials to what is there, respect the way the building was designed to handle water, and avoid the hard, rigid modern fixes that look tidy for two years and then crack. That is how we quote work in BB7.
